About Anna

Anna Lewanska was born in 1972 and grew up in Katowice, the capital of the most industrialized region of Poland. She started to take pictures, when she was 20. As a consequence in the same year she quit Slavic studies to fulfill her dream and start to study photography.

Anna studied in the College of Photography in Katowice, the College of Photography in Jelenia Gora (both in Poland) and the Institute of Creative Photography at Silesian University in Opava (Czech Republic).
At the same time she was employed by the biggest polish newspaper "Gazeta Wyborcza" as a photojournalist and subsequently as a photo editor. Anna worked there for seven years. Concurrently with her work for the newspaper she continued to create her own art.

In 2004 she moved to Australia, when she lived for the next 3 years and she worked there for Endeavour Photographics Agency. At that time she developed interest for traveling, and travel photography became the important part of her portfolio. Anna's greatest interest has always been black and white photography, which she creates using medium format as well as 35 mm camera. Her pictures were shown in a large number of galleries in Poland, Australia and Ireland, during different collective as well as individual exhibitions. As a photojournalist Anna published her works in many different newspapers and magazines.

Currently she works as a freelancer.
